No one does Christmas quite like Germany, Switzerland and France, home to the first recorded Christmas ornament. Their festive holiday season kicks off at the end of November and runs up until the beginning of January. The first recorded mention of holiday markets dates to the 1600’s.

Everywhere you go, traditional cookies and cakes are sold in the markets and fill the windows of stores. You are strolling through the streets with ancient buildings and magnificent cathedrals as the backdrop to decorative trees, wreaths, and twinkling lights. Gingerbread, bratwurst and the ever present hot spiced wine “glühwein” are enjoyed by all. With entertainment at every turn, it is truly a magical place enjoyed not only by visitors, but the locals and their families.  The cities are lit throughout the many neighborhood markets creating a truly magical wonderland. It is a magnificent experience for all.
