This unique and customized trip to Africa was planned to get a “flavor” for the entire country with a small group. We chose September as the optimum time to experience all four elements of the trip.
We traveled by the Rovos Rail. It was a luxurious 2-night rail trip from Johannesburg /Pretoria to Cape Town. The train was an incredible throwback to the grand style of train travel. We experienced beautifully appointed bedrooms with ensuite baths, dressing for dinner and wonderful stops along the way. It was a unique and once in a lifetime adventure.
We spent two days in Cape Town. Just enough time to give us a glimpse of city life with its art and local handicrafts. Cape Town is a wonderful town that gives you easy access to Cape of Good Hope and the surrounding areas.
African wineries are unique and a must see. Winelands is only 45 minutes from Cape Town. The Winelands is protected by a ring of mountains creating the perfect microclimate for growing grapes. Beautiful lodges, wineries, restaurants and not to be missed locally grown Pinotage wines are unique to the area. This is a popular and favorite area for everyone.
For the fourth and final part of our trip we spent 3 days at Tinga Lodge set in Lion Sands Game Reserve, is a private reserve within Kruger National Park. We occupied all 11 suite bungalows and experienced early morning and late afternoon game drives with wonderful guides and trackers. We were fortunate to see all the “Big Five” in their natural habitat. As a hippopotamus walked by my glass enclosed shower, I knew I would never experience anything like this again.
When the trip was complete, we all agreed it was like having three separate trips within one. Truly a trip of a lifetime.
